Micro Rules

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP SOCCER PROGRAM

MICRO DIVISION RULES / GUIDELINES

The Micro Division is for children who are in,entering or eligible for 2009 kindergarten school year.

Coaches and parents should emphasize having FUN and LEARNING BASIC SKILLS.

Each team may choose its own team name. Uniforms will be issued and must be returned at the end of the season.

Shin guards are required and must be covered by soccer socks. Soccer cleats are highly recommended (and are the responsibility of each participant). If sweat pants are worn they must be worn under shin guards. Hooded sweatshirts, hard casts or jewelry are not permitted.

Only one organized practice per week is recommended for this age group. Parents are encouraged to reinforce the teachings at home.

A PARENT OR GUARDIAN SHOULD BE PRESENT FOR ALL PRACTICES AND GAMES.

A size 3 ball and 4 x 6-foot goals will be used. The playing field will be approximately 30 yards by 40 yards. Each team will play 5 players, with no goalie or goal tending allowed. Also coaches should be teaching player’s offense vs. defense and leaving at least two defenders back behind the half line.

PARENTS AND CHILDREN (FANS) SHOULD VIEW THE GAME FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDELINE FROM THE COACHES/TEAMS AND BEHIND THE ORANGE SPECTATOR LINE. ALSO PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO VIEW THE GAME FROM BEHIND THE GOALS.

One or two coaches from each team can be on the field to instruct and guide the players during the game. (No official referee will be utilized.). Coaches will be responsible for keeping time and refereeing.

Each game will consist of four eight minute quarters with a 2 minute break between quarters and a 5 minute break at half time. Time keeper should allow the time clock to run unless a player is injured. Do not stop time for throw-ins, substitutions and free kicks.

Each child will be given an opportunity to play two full quarters in every game unless the child chooses not to. Suggestion for substituting players is every four minutes.

All rules infractions should be explained to the players. There will be NO DIRECT, INDIRECT, PENALTY OR CORNER KICKS. Once an infraction has been explained, for example (tripping), then the opposing team will put the ball back into play with a throw-in. He / she may take as many chances as necessary to make it a proper throw-in.

At the conclusion of the season, ALL PLAYERS WILL RECEIVE A TROPHY for participating in the Program.
