HOLLAND TOWNSHIP SOCCER PROGRAM
DIVISION 6 RULES / GUIDELINES
Division 6 is for children in 1st or 2nd grade for the 2008 season. Coaches and parents should emphasize having FUN and LEARNING BASIC SKILLS.
Each team may choose its own team name. Uniforms will be issued and must be returned at the end of the season.
Shin guards are required and must be covered by soccer socks. Soccer cleats are recommended (and are the responsibility of each participant). If sweat pants are worn they must be worn under shin guards. Hooded sweatshirts, hard casts or jewelry are not permitted.
One to two practices per week are recommended for this age group. Parents are encouraged to reinforce the teachings at home.
A size 3 ball and 6 x 18-foot goals will be used. The playing field will be approximately 35 yards by 65 yards. Each team will play 8 players, including a goalie.
PARENTS AND CHILDREN (FANS) SHOULD VIEW THE GAME FROM OPPOSITE SIDELINE OF THE COACHES/TEAMS AND STAY BEHIND THE ORANGE SPECTATOR LINE . ALSO PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO VIEW THE GAME FROM BEHIND THE GOALS.
PARENTS ARE ASKED NOT TO COACH FROM THE SIDELINE. PLEASE ALLOW THE COACHES TO INSTRUCT THEIR PLAYERS.
Each game will consist of four ten minute quarters with a 2 minute break between quarters and a 5 minute break at half time.
Each child will be given an opportunity to play two full quarters in every game unless the child chooses not to or is injured.
All rule infractions will be explained to the players with the exception of off sides. There will be NO SLIDE TACKLES, DIRECT KICKS or PENALTY KICKS. Once an infraction has been explained, the opposing team will put the ball back into play with a throw-in or indirect kick. He / she may take two chances to make it a proper throw-in. Any infraction within the penalty area will result in a CORNER KICK. A ball that goes out of play over the goal end line will be put back into play by a goal kick or corner kick as appropriate. All corner kicks will be taken from the corner of the penalty box.
During the game coaches & players are restricted to the area on the sideline between midfield & the 18 yard line on which their bench resides. Please do not cross over the half line into the opposing coach’s side.
Coaches may not come on the field during the game except with the referee’s permission
Never criticize or yell at the referee. It is a tough job. If an appeal able mistake is made, talk to the referee. Remember, you are the role model and must set the standard for behavior.
4 Goal Rule- If a team is leading by 4 goals, that team MUST remove a player. The player removed should be its best player. Coaches are reminded to manage the score. Move players around, encourage more passing to taking shots. Please remember that this is a recreational game for the enjoyment of the players.
At the conclusion of the season, ALL PLAYERS WILL RECEIVE A TROPHY for participating in the Program.
